Inspiration & Concept

Throughout the 2-week research trip diving into Japan’s lighting design and craftsmanship, along with the rich heritage of light and shadow in Japanese culture, we concluded four keywords that are significant to the core of our concept.

Material Exploration

PlaRain® by WAKO Plastic Co., Ltd. 和晃プラスチック

A three-dimensional plastic made of intricately intertwined plastic threads. Its property allows light to shine through, leaving the shadow effect similar to Komorebi. At the same time, it also provides a level of privacy with its semi-transparency characteristic.

PlaRain® uses recyclable and environmentally friendly biomass plastics. It can be varied in density or hardness, and can be manufactured using special extrusion molding technology for custom sizes.
